Finding Your Spiritual Gift

From our Pastor for Youth & Children:

Darren SuttonWe know that your children are your most precious blessings even though sometimes parents of teenagers have to be reminded of that! Know that we love you and your teenager we want to partner with you as you love them, launch them, and let them go! We pray that your family will be strong, united, and focused on Jesus. That truly is a thriving life and a thriving family. If we can help you in anyway, we're here for you!

Your friendly neighborhood youth pastor:
Darren

Why Thrive? Well, anyone can just exist but God tells us He wants more than that for us He wants us to have a thriving, amazing life one that can only be discovered through Jesus! (John 10:10) We've designed a pretty comprehensive way for teenagers to discover the THRIVing life!

SUNDAY
Elements at 9:30 AM in THE LIVE-THRIVE Student Center
One of the elements of a thriving life is learning more about how God can help you have one! This Bible study opportunity gives you the chance to learn more about God's amazing plan for you while you make new friends! We all meet together in Student Center but we meet in small table groups. Each discussion group is based on school grade and has an adult shepherd who guides students through discussion about how the Bible applies to life today. If a group is lucky, they might just find breakfast at their table or win the chance to sit in The Lounge.

WEDNESDAY
The Live-Thrive Show at 6:30 PM in THE LIVE-THRIVE Student Center
The Live-Thrive Show is a weekly talk show for students. From Ninja Sightings to Thrive News to "the musical guest of the week" and lots of other fun stuff, you'll have a great time and learn a ton about what God has to say on everything from drinking to siblings to revenge and more!

SHELTER
various days various times various locations
No matter how thriving your life is, everyone can use a little shelter! Shelter teams provide accountability and in-depth Bible study in small groups of students, about the same age and the same gender led by an adult who cares and wants students to be all God intended them to be.
Shelter registration happens in August and January. Email youth@christpointchurch.com. to register or for more info.

EVENTS
Lots of our typical youth ministry events happen through our Elements Table Groups. You can access that information at www.myspace.com/live_thriveshow. (You do not have to have a MySpace account to view this page) We do 2 major,student-ministry-wide events per year.

Summer: Even years focus on youth camp a concentrated week of discipleship and bonding.
Odd years focus on mission/outreach efforts and concentrated week focused on meeting the needs of others through service.

Spring/Fall: We do one retreat-style event per year whether it's Disciple Now, an event hosted by an outside ministry company, or an in-house retreat, we use this weekend to focus on personal relationships with Jesus & unity-building.

PARENTS: Though teenagers would never admit it, parents are the most powerful influence they have! As a student ministry, we want to help parents have the most beneficial impact on their kids that they can! Check out Mi Podcast for helpful, practical tips on parenting teenagers. Millennial Influence is a ministry founded and run by our Pastor for Youth & Children and his wife.www.minfluence.com

SHEPHERDS: All teenagers need relationships with adults who love and care for them. God has given us an amazing mission field in this generation! Serve God by serving students! FAQ's

Who can participate in the youth ministry?Any student in 7-12th
grades.

Permission Form

Why do your events happen through table groups? As our youth ministry grows larger, it's important for us to get smaller to be a place where everyone is known by someone. Table groups and table events help us do that.

What if a student is not part of a table group? Anyone can attend table events, as long as they are part of the age group served by that table. We promote table-specific events on our MySpace account www.myspace.com/live_thriveshow

Can my 6th grader be part of the youth ministry? No We offer a ministry specifically addressing the needs of pre-teens through Compass Kids called Barefoot Ministries. In addition, just before kids begin the 7th grade, we spend a few days in orientation for them and their parents to the student ministry. Watch the Compass Kids page for information on 7-Up.

Does my kid need anything to participate in events? We utilize an annual permission form for all ministry-related events. Please be sure your student has one on file. (link to permission form).

How can I volunteer in the student ministry? Contact our Pastor for Youth &; Children to arrange an interview and complete the application/screening check.

What's the difference between student and youth ministry? There is no difference. The terms are used interchangeably.

When I grew up, I went to youth group. You don't use that terminology. Why? We believe what sets us apart from other organizations that exist to nurture teenagers is our focus on Jesus and that makes us a ministry. Kids can be part of a lot of different groups, clubs, community service organizations and more. We provide those elements + Jesus & that makes us a ministry!(Plus groups can sometimes be clique-ish and we don't ever want to be that!)

If I have never been to church before or my teenagers have never been to church (or your church), when is the best time to come? We would love for you to come anytime, but Sunday mornings is designed to be a lighter Bible study with lots of connection & to kids and
adults who care. It's a good starting place in the youth ministry.
