Finding Your Spiritual Gift

From our Pastor for Youth & Children:

Darren SuttonThank you for checking us out online.  You and your kids are important to us.  All that we do at Compass Kids, we do so that Jesus might be more real in your family.  Just as a compass serves to give us our true direction, we pray that Compass Kids will help your kids find the path and purpose God has for them…and that it will do the same for you!  We know that your children are your very most precious gift – thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve you & God by serving and loving them!

You friendly neighborhood children’s pastor:

Darren

COMPASS GUIDES

We invite adults (Compass Guides) with a passion to help & love families to invest in the lives of children through Compass Kids.  Each Trail Guide undergoes an interview process and a background screening.  Our goal is to assist the most powerful, potent spiritual influence a child has…their parents.  Thank you for allowing us the privilege of serving your family by loving your kids.

SAFETY

Safety is important to us.  That’s why we ask every parent to register their child every time they come to one of our events or regularly scheduled ministry opportunities.  By taking advantage of our easy-to-use registrations kiosks (located just outside the kids wing) parents automatically generate a nametag for each child registered.  At the same time, our system randomly generates a pick-up number that corresponds with the child’s nametag.  When picking up a child, the nametag on the child will be matched with the corresponding tag generated for each adult at check-in.

SERVING

Adults who want to serve as Trail Guides are required to have an interview with the children’s pastor and submit information for a background check.  (link to e-mail and paperwork)

EVENTS

Occasionally, we have special events designed to strengthen your kids and your family.  As they arrive, you can always find updated information and links here.  Be sure your child has our annual permission form on file.  (link to permission form)

We host three annual events each year.
Kids Camp gives completed 3rd – 6th graders the chance to retreat and hear Jesus in a more concentrated way.  This event typically happens in June each year.

Kids Art & Science Experience gives completed Kindergarteners – 6th graders the chance to learn about Jesus, get creative, and invite their friends to a high-octane, out-of-the-box summer camp that brings about the best of creativity, ingenuity, and fun!  This event typically happens in July each year.

Harvest Hoopla gives kids of all ages the chance to celebrate all things autumn.  Typically around Halloween each year, this event allows families to celebrate the season in a myriad of ways – it changes every year!

FAQ’s

What does my child need to participate in Compass Kids?  All your child needs is a willing heart, be a 1st – 6th grader, and have an annual permission form on file for special events hosted off campus.  (link to permission form)

Everything starts at 1st grade – what about my kindergartener?  Compass Kids begins with children in or who have completed 1st grade.  Kindergarteners are part of our expanded pre-school ministry.  (link to nursery/preschool page)

What about my pre-school aged kids?   You can check out our nursery & pre-school ministry here.  (link to nursery/preschool page)

Why aren’t 5th & 6th graders in Kids Church?  We believe preteens are a very special group of kids with unique needs.  Not quite old enough for the youth ministry, but too old for children’s ministry, we believe the best way to meet their needs is with something specific for them.

What about this online thing for preteens?  Is it safe?  Hosted by a 3rd party server, Grapple is designed to be an online, small-group community specific for each church.  Access is only granted to our specific church site – and kids must have their own codes and passwords to enter.

What does my preteen do during the 11:00 AM service?  We believe all children benefit from worshipping with adults, but especially preteens.  We ask our 11 & 12 year olds (or 5th & 6th graders) to join us in adult worship at 11:00 AM.

What if my preteen doesn’t like big service – can he/she go to kids church?  No.  Kids Church is designed for and focuses on younger kids.  Preteens will be asked to join the adults at the 11:00 AM service.

Do you screen your adults?  Yes.  Every trail guide in the children’s ministry goes through a thorough interview and screening process which includes a criminal background check.

How can I volunteer?  Download an application form and contact our Pastor for Youth & Children.  (link to forms and e-mail address)
